There is no doubt that Australian labradoodles make for great pets, but many people do not know much about their interesting history.

As the name implies, these dogs originated in Australia. Here, a man by the name of Wally Conran bred a Labrador Retriever to a Standard Poodle in order to help a vision-impaired woman whose husband was allergic to dogs. By combining the two breeds, Conran was able to provide her with a great lead dog that wouldn’t aggravate her husband’s allergies.

Conran first tried to help the woman by finding a poodle who wouldn’t aggravate her husband’s allergies. But, after sending 33 different saliva samples to the woman over a period of two years and, finding that all of the samples aggravated her husband’s allergies, he finally had to look at other options.

That was when he decided to develop the first Australian labradoodle. Today, Australian labradoodle puppies can be identified by a number of characteristics. These include…

Body – compact and slightly longer than they are tall with slightly sloping shoulders
Head – proportional to the rest of the body, with the length from the nose to the eyes being slightly longer than from the eyes to the back of the head
Eyes – large and expressive
Nose – large, fleshy and never pointed
Tail – long and shaped like a saber; not docked
Feet – thick foot pads that are close together
Teeth – slightly overlapping

Of course, the appearance of Australian labradoodles will vary somewhat depending upon the appearance of its parents as well as upon how the genes are divvied up. It is not unusual for Australian labradoodle puppies to look like small versions of Labradors, but it is also not unusual for them to look more like a poodle — or like something in between.

You can find the exact Australian labradoodle puppies to suit your specific taste, while also remaining true to this hybrid breed.

The simple truth is that Australian labradoodles make for great pets and are simply adorable, no matter what variety you get. So, if you are thinking about purchasing one of these pets, make sure to purchase it from a reliable breeder and you will be sure to be thrilled with the results.
