Labradoodle Dogs – Body Conformation of a Beauty

Are you thinking of adding a Labradoodle dog to your family? This unique breed of dogs is relatively unknown, but quickly growing in popularity. Their popularity is due to the fact that these dogs are intelligent, dependable, playful, and allergy-friendly – one more thing, they are absolutely adorable.

While Labradoodle puppies may look like they are cute little dolls, a great deal of care and science goes into breeding Australian Labradoodle dogs. A good Labradoodle breeder is concerned with breeding dogs that follow the American Australian Labradoodle Association requirements for the breed. This means that Labradoodle breeders seek out dogs that show the customary temperament and intelligence of the breed, good health, and demonstrate the body conformation traits of the breed.

What exactly does the body of a carefully bred Labradoodle dog look like? Good conformation on a Labradoodle includes the following:

Size of Dog – Labradoodle dogs tend to be compact. These dogs are medium to light boned, with a quick, graceful, galloping motion when running. While Labradoodle dogs are bred to one of three size standards, their basic body conformation is the same, regardless of overall size:

Miniature –16 inches and under in height, weight between 15 – 30 pounds.
Medium – 17 to 20 inches in height, weight between 30 – 45 pounds.
Standard – 21 inches and up in height, weight between 45 – 80 pounds.

Body – Labradoodle breeders look for dogs who have an elegant body. Labradoodle dogs are slightly longer in length than height, with compact bodies. Their top line is level, with strong loins and slightly sloping shoulders. Flanks rise up to medium tuck – these dogs have a galloping gait which is quite beautiful to watch.

Head – Labradoodle dogs have a head that is very proportional to the rest of the body. The length from the nose to eyes is slightly longer than the length from eyes to the back of the head. The head should be nicely shaped and flow into a strong, muscular neck.

Eyes – Labradoodles have beautiful, large expressive eyes.

Nose – The nose should be large and fleshy, never a pointed nose.

Tail – Labradoodles will have a long, saber shaped tail. Labradoodles breeders do not dock tails.

Feet – Labradoodle dogs have thick foot pads that are situated close together.

Teeth – These dogs have a scissor-like bite with top teeth slightly overlapping the bottom teeth.
